From the Windows Within: Through Eyes Searching to Find
Published in Paperback by Dorrance Publishing Co (May, 1998)
Author: Japonica F. Edmonds Smith
Average review score:

very good
I have to believe this book is about life experiences. Truly , it's a good read. She tends to be absorbed in the love aspects of intimacy, the closeness of that special someone within that given individual. Just is if she could also be talking about how she feels about a given relationship with a higher being i.e. the manifestation of Lordship, or simply friends , family , just experiences. Anyway, a uplifting book.

The Goncourt Journals, 1851-1870.
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press Reprint (June, 1969)
Authors: Edmond Louis Antoine Huot de Goncourt and Jules Alfred Huot de Goncourt
Average review score:

Two Eagle-Eyed Observers of 19th Century Paris
The GONCOURT JOURNALS are by far the absolute best single book you can read about what it was like to be alive in the Paris of Napoleon III. Edmond and Jules de Goncourt were brothers who knew where all the skeletons were buried. They were on close terms with many of the Impressionist painters like Edouard Manet, the nobility (Princess Mathilde de Bonaparte), poets (Paul Verlaine), and writers (Flaubert, Zola and de Maupassant). Although no mean novelists themselves (GERMINIE LACERTEUX), the Goncourt brothers are best known for their journal.

Just a couple of selections to whet your appetite:

"Talk about perfumes led to a mention of the scent of vanilla that hangs around Frederick Lemaitre, who has pods of it sewn into his coat-collars, and who was nearly poisoned as a result of his habit of kissing the hair of the actors he plays with, for he kissed Mlle Defodon, who used to put gold dust in her hair, and breathed in that powdered copper."

"There have been many definitions of beauty in art. What is it? Beauty is what untrained eyes consider abominable. Beauty is what my mistress and my housekeeper regard as abominable."

"A book is never a masterpiece: it becomes one. Genius is the talent of a dead man."

The Grand Boulevards of Baron Haussmann come alive, along with the smells and sounds of that strange seminal time in which so many great talents were beginning their rise to greatness. Dip into this book at any point, and you will only whet your appetite for more.

THE GOOD WEB SITE GUIDE 2001
Published in Paperback by Trafalgar Square (September, 2000)
Author: Graham Edmonds
Average review score:

Succinct, no-nonsense guide
I read this guide because a friend shared his copy with me. I thought it would be (yet) another collection of useless web site listings, but I was pleasantly amazed!! This is the web guide that web users have given up on wishing for -- the authors have really done their homework, AND they know a thing or two about the subjects they're reviewing. Organized by subject (wine, parents, home, etc.) they use a star system to rate web sites according to comprehensiveness of content, currency, and ease of use (among other things). So... if the wine site raves about the latest California pinot and totally misses the fabulous reds out of Argentina, the Good Web Guide will call them on it. Wonderful books for web surfers of all levels -- forget the search engines, don't waste your time!!

A book to dog--ear
I would say this is a book that takes some chewing, some thorough digestion, even. When I first got this book, I didn't like it. I put it away with all my other books I don't like. When I got it out again I found it was a much better book than I had at first realized, maybe books, like dog bones, improve with age.

Jehovah's Witnesses: Their Claims, Doctrinal Changes, and Prophetic Speculation. What Does the Record Show
Published in Paperback by Xulon Press (November, 2001)
Author: Edmond C. Gruss
Average review score:

A Must Book for Every Witness to Read
Jehovah's Witnesses by Professor Edmond Gruss is one of the best documented and most devastating critiques of the Watchtower ever written. It contains thousands of quotes from official Watchtower sources that prove the Watchtower over and over has made scores of totally false predictions. Professor Gruss, an ex-Witness himself, has done his homework (he has been at work for 40 years on this topic, ever since he completed his graduate thesis on the Watchtower). He has produced the most definitive work ever published on the Watchtower's many false predictions. It proves the Watchtower cannot be trusted in the least. This book is 358 large (8.5 x 11.5 inches) sized pages with hundreds of footnotes documenting the text. I too have research this topic for many years, but Professor Gruss has gone far beyond me. From my research, I can vouch for the accuracy of his conclusions. I have most of the Watchtower publications back to 1879, so was able to check many of his references. How someone can remain a Witness after reading this book is beyond me.The Watchtower's own words condom them (no wonder they discourage Witnesses from reading the older publications!) Also, as a lover of fine books, I was surprised at the high quality of this book (the printing was excellent as was the cover). I buy a lot of books and the quality of many disappoint me. This one didn't! It will most certainly become the classic text in this area and will cause thousands of Witness to seriously question the credibility of their "mother organization."

Let Me Alone: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Dufour Editions (01 January, 1974)
Authors: Helen Woods Edmonds and Kavan Anna
Average review score:

Did a woman write this novel?
The writer of this novel is better known as Anna Kavan - the name of a character in one of her earlier novels that she later took for herself. There must be some hidden significance in that! This is probably the strongest modern novel I have read. The start is captivating and brilliantly exposed, the middle is a bit flat and rather remorseless, but the ending is electric. At long last the principle character feels an iota of remorse for her actions against an unlikeable victim of her actions. I wonder how a woman could have written this novel - is it a brilliant psychological expose - almost a thriller - or is it a wonderfully personal account of a life written with startling naivete?
